What changes without espresso

A café latte usually combines espresso and milk. Filter coffee or a moka pot produces a different base. You can still make a milk-forward drink, but its concentration and texture will differ. Naming that variation honestly helps you repeat it.

A measured filter variation

Measured latte-style filter coffee workflow with 20 g coffee, 200 g water, 120 g warm milk, and a handheld frother.

Brew 20 g coffee with 200 g water in a brewer that works with this small batch. Warm 120 g milk separately, following safe handling and equipment instructions. Combine gradually, tasting before adding all the milk. This is a stronger filter ratio intended for a milk drink.

Froth without overcomplicating it

A handheld frother can introduce air into warm milk. Use a vessel with room for expansion and avoid splashing. Different dairy and plant milks foam differently; a stable foam is not a test of whether the milk is good.

Adjust the balance

If the drink tastes mostly of milk, use less milk next time. If the coffee is harsh, improve the brew rather than hiding it with more sweetener. Add sugar or syrup only if you want that ingredient in the finished drink.

Other equipment

A moka pot can make a concentrated coffee, but follow its own instructions and do not tamp the grounds like an espresso puck. It is not a pressure-equivalent substitute for an espresso machine.

The Signature is a useful starting coffee. The Velvet can give a caramel flavor direction, but added flavoring is different from adding a sweetened caramel sauce at home.
