Decaf is not caffeine-free
Decaffeination removes most caffeine before roasting, but some remains. The amount in a finished cup varies. An exact caffeine number for one coffee requires product-specific information; a general average is not a test result for the bag you buy.
Understand the process name
Water, carbon dioxide, and solvent-based methods can be used to decaffeinate green coffee. A named process describes how caffeine is removed, not a roast level. Avoid assuming every water-process coffee uses the same trademarked process.
The Quiet Andean
Our Peru decaf is a medium roast identified as water processed, with milk chocolate, hazelnut, and gentle sweetness in its tasting profile. These are sensory notes in a coffee product, not a promise of added chocolate or nuts. Consult the current listing for the full product details.
Brew for flavor
For a filter cup, start with 20 g coffee and 320 g water. Use a grind appropriate to the brewer. If the flow is unusually fast or slow, adjust the grind in small steps. Decaf may behave differently from your regular coffee, so copying the grinder setting exactly is less useful than keeping a brewing note.
Choose it for your routine
You may prefer decaf later in the day or simply enjoy its taste. It does not guarantee sleep, and individual caffeine sensitivity differs. If you need to avoid caffeine for a medical reason, ask your clinician what residual caffeine means for you.
The National Coffee Association provides a general explanation of decaffeination. Our brewing recipe is a practical starting point, not a clinical recommendation.
