The middle is a range

Medium roast sits between lighter and darker roast directions, but brands do not all use identical boundaries. It can show both origin character and developed roast flavors. The actual coffee still matters more than the word balanced on its own.

Three different medium roasts

Three measured medium-roast cups side by side with factual tasting cards for The Signature, The Composer, and The Samba.

The Signature is a house blend with milk chocolate, toasted hazelnut, and subtle caramel sweetness. The Composer is a Colombian single origin with red apple, stone fruit, caramel, and brown sugar. The Samba has milk chocolate, roasted hazelnut, and brown sugar sweetness.

Those notes describe the experience of plain coffee. They are not added ingredients. The three coffees share a roast category while offering different reasons to choose them.

Start with the same brew

Use 20 g coffee and 320 g water for a compatible filter brewer. Keep water and method steady when comparing. If the flow differs, make a small grind adjustment and note it rather than assuming the roast label requires one fixed setting.

Decide what balance means to you

For some drinkers, it means moderate brightness. For others, enough flavor to remain present with milk. Taste the cup as you normally serve it, and record whether you want a lighter body, a deeper finish, or a different flavor family next time.

Avoid the automatic claims

Medium roast does not establish an exact caffeine content, a pH measurement, or health suitability. It describes a roast direction. Use it with the rest of the product information to make a more informed choice.
