The coffee's identity

The Island is our Bali Blue single-origin coffee from the Kintamani Highlands of Central Bali, Indonesia. Its medium-dark profile lists bakers chocolate, orange peel, juniper, molasses, and a clean finish. These are sensory notes in plain coffee.

Read processing precisely

The supplied product information describes hand picking, wet hulling, and two-step sun drying on raised beds. Wet-hulled should not be casually rewritten as washed or natural. Those terms describe different handling approaches.

Origin is context, not a universal flavor

Bali is not one uniform coffee. Growing conditions, processing, roast, and preparation all contribute to the cup. Use The Island's own information rather than assuming every coffee called Bali Blue or Bali Blue Moon is the same lot or product.

A filter starting point

Try 20 g coffee and 320 g water with a grind suited to the brewer. Taste for the balance between deeper notes and the brighter orange-peel association. Adjust one variable at a time if the cup is too thin or overly harsh.

An espresso possibility

The Island can also be explored as espresso with a recipe appropriate to your machine and basket. Will's founder notes describe enjoying its balance in his own espresso machine. That is a personal result, not a guarantee that every machine will produce the same shot.

Compare with another Indonesian coffee

The Mandheling from Sumatra offers another medium-dark direction. Brew both with the same method before deciding which you prefer. The comparison is between specific products, not a ranking of islands.
