What dark roast describes

Dark roast refers to a roast style. It does not tell you the coffee's origin, the number of beans in a blend, or the exact caffeine in a cup. Roast names vary between companies, so compare the actual description as well as the label.

Bold can mean several things

One drinker means a full texture; another means a concentrated cup; another wants smoky or bittersweet flavors. Decide which quality you want before choosing a coffee. More grounds per unit of water increases concentration, but it does not transform a light roast into a dark roast.

A coffee from our range

The Parisian is a dark roast with dark chocolate, smoky oak, and a long, warming finish in its tasting profile. It is distinct from The Noir, our other French-roast offering. Use the product name and listing to keep the two separate.

Start with a controlled brew

For filter coffee, try 20 g coffee and 320 g water. If the cup is too intense, adjust the recipe gradually. A coarser grind or a modestly lower brewing temperature may help with an overly harsh result, depending on the brewer. Change one variable and keep a note.

Milk is a preference

A dark roast can work with milk, but it need not require it. Taste the coffee at a comfortable temperature first, then add your usual amount. Choose the result you enjoy rather than using bitterness as proof that the coffee is strong enough.
